Frequently Asked Questions

The questions firms actually ask

Answered the way we would answer them on a call. If yours is missing, bring it to the demo.

THE PRODUCT

Does Untangly do bookkeeping or tax preparation?

No, and on purpose. QuickBooks, Xero, and your tax software do that work. Untangly manages everything around it: the clients, deadlines, documents, communication, and billing. Tools that try to be both usually do both halves badly.

Will my clients actually use the portal?

The honest answer: clients use whatever is easier than email. So every portal action was built to be fewer steps than its email equivalent. No passwords, camera roll uploads, two tap signing. The portal page walks through it from the client's side.

We only need half of what you offer. Is that a problem?

No. Most firms start with clients, deadlines, and document requests, then grow into billing, booking, and the pipeline. Partial adoption is normal; the parts you use don't cost more because other parts exist.

Does it work for firms outside the US and Canada?

Today we serve US and Canadian firms, and the product is built around their workflows. The Middle East and Africa are next on the roadmap. If that is you, tell us; the order of expansion follows demand.

SWITCHING

How long does migration really take?

A solo practice: about an evening and one call. A 10 person firm: around four weeks, most of it comfortable parallel running. A 40 person firm: six to ten weeks, staged by team. The switching page has the week by week plan.

We are mid season. Should we wait?

To migrate, yes. To research, no. The firms with the smoothest switches book the demo while the pain is vivid and schedule the move for the quiet weeks after their deadline. We will put your migration date in writing and not touch anything until then.

What if our data is a mess?

Nearly every firm says that. Mapping messy data is what the migration team does all day. Bring it as it is; you review a sample batch before anything goes live.

MONEY AND TRUST

What does it cost, really?

$49 to $95 per user per month depending on tier, everything included: portal, eSignature, booking, billing, migration help. Clients are free and unlimited. No setup fees. Pricing is public, with the tier details.

What happens to our data if we leave?

It exports, completely, in usable formats, whenever you ask, including mid contract. No exit fees, no data ransom. We would rather earn renewals than block exits.

Is our client data safe?

Encrypted in transit and at rest, two factor authentication, role based access, full audit logs, US data hosted in the US and Canadian data in Canada. The security page has the full rundown, and your IT consultant is welcome on the demo.

Why should we trust a newer product over the incumbents?

Not on faith. Run us against them with the same real client file and let your most skeptical senior decide. Our bet is that focus beats feature count, and the demo is where that gets tested.
